Character Notes/History/Personality:
Chuck Bartowski is a socially inept (and adorable) computer nerd next door who just so happens to have the wrong friend send him an email at the wrong time (but we will get to that in a minute ♥). Our reluctant hero works at the local Buy More (think Geek Squad of Best Buy), alongside an array of characters, but most notable his best friend, Morgan Grimes. Accompanying him on the show is his sister (Ellie) and her fiance (Devon "Captain Awesome" Woodcomb), who are both doctors, and who both would like him to get a girlfriend (they're looking out for his best interests, really!). With the exception of these two there isn't much known about his family, yet. Eventually, it's revealed to us that their mother left at some point, and the father was "never really there".
Unfortunately for Chuck, a 'friend' of his from college (Bryce Larkin) frames him for cheating on a test (like Chuck would really need to cheat), and Chuck is thus expelled from school only twelve credits short of graduation. Man, that must have sucked. This information is revealed in a later episode, as is the little tidbit that this was actually done to keep Chuck from being recruited to work for the CIA. Apparently, Chuck has a fabulous photographic memory, and his brain can process an amount of visual information that the normal brain definitely couldn't fathom. Bryce feared that if Chuck worked for the CIA, he would be eventually destroyed. Chuck is eventually awarded his degree in a later episode (Chuck Versus Tom Sawyer).
The intersect is actually the most important player in the show. An email was sent to Chuck from the previously mentioned friend/enemy, Bryce. Chuck somehow manages to download all of this incredibly important and vital information into his brain (remember, phtotographic memory kids!) and eventually winds up the only remaining copy of said intersect. So, in a nutshell, Chuck -IS- the secret database that is the ENTIRE CIA/NSA. Both the CIA/NSA and Chuck's computer are destroyed, leaving him the only copy. That doesn't spell disaster or anything, now does it?!
In order to combat this problem, the CIA sends field officer Sarah Walker to protect Chuck, while NSA sends Major John Casey to assassinate Chuck. Eventually, of course, the two agencies agree that Chuck must be protected (duh, why kill the only copy, guys?!), and Sarah and John are assigned to keep him safe; Sarah assuming the role of Chuck's girlfriend and taking a job at a restaurant next to Buy More, and John taking a position at the store with Chuck. Chuck actually continues (unknowingly) to recieve items from Bryce that update the Intersect in his brain periodically. Great friend.
A major plotline in the show is that Chuck is in love with his protector, Sarah. We aren't sure if she is in love with Chuck or not, but most people seem to think she shares his affections, though she continues to maintain that it would be unprofessional to have any sort of relationship with Chuck besides business. Poor Chuck.
Undeniably, Chuck is a bit of a wimp, as he is totally unaccustomed and unprepared for a CIA/spy/shootemup lifestyle, and this shows in nearly episode he stars in. He's very clever, and is very good at wiggling his way out of compromising situations (read: life threatening), even when he is hanging off an out door elevator in his boxer shorts. Overall, Chuck is a good person, with a good heart.
